There is no doubt that Eden Hazard leads the crop of new talent that could be heading to the Premier League this season but he is certainly not the only young talented player out there. Hazard would have topped this list had he not recently announced that he will join Chelsea this summer, for a fee of £32 million pounds.
Here is a brief run down of 10 young players, in no particular order who could make big money moves in the near future and perhaps to the Premier League, at least that’s what some of their suitors would hope.
1. Neymar /Age 20 Current club: Santos
The next great Brazilian who won the Golden Boot in Brazil in 2010 and 2011 and was also South American player of the year in 2011. He has scored an incredible 107 goals in 181 club matches since making his debut in 2009 and can play out wide or through the middle. He has plenty of skills and tricks and is a one man highlight reel; it would take a bid estimated to be around £40 million to prise him away from Santos.
Linked with: Chelsea & Real Madrid.
2. Marek Hamsik /Age 24 Current club: Napoli
An attacking midfield player with an eye for goal and who also adds a creative spark. Hamsik has scored 50 goals in 180 games for current club Napoli including a cool finish to secure victory over Juventus in the recent Coppa Italia final. Hamsik also had 9 assists in 2011/12 season and is the Vice Captain of his club and Captain of his country, Slovakia. Unfortunately for any potential suitors he recently signed a one year contract extension so any move may have to wait another year.
Linked to: Chelsea & Juventus
3. Christian Eriksen/ Age 20 Current club: Ajax
He cost Ajax £1 million at the age of 16 and has become an important part of the Ajax team helping them win the Dutch Title this past season. An attacking midfield player who can play wide or in the middle although he should score more goals than he does having only racked up 13 in 76 appearances for Ajax. Eriksen was named Danish player of the year and best young player in Holland in 2011. Transfer rumors surrounding Eriksen have been surprisingly quiet but I don’t expect it to stay that way for much longer, especially if he performs well at the forthcoming European Championships.
Linked to: Manchester United & AC Milan
4. Younes Belhanda / Age 22 Current club: Montpellier
The Moroccan international who represented France at youth and under 20 levels, Belhanda has just helped Montpellier to the Ligue 1 title. Originally a winger but has recently moved into a central position behind the striker, which helped him to his best goals output in a season scoring 12 times in 28 matches last season. His current club manager, Rene Girard has compared him to former French international Robert Pires.
Linked with: Arsenal, Liverpool & Manchester City.
5. Mario Gotze /Age 19 Current club: Borussia Dortmund
Gotze was the subject of a very late bid from Arsenal last summer, which unfortunately for the North London club was rejected. Gotze an attacking midfield player is a product of Dortmund’s youth academy and has been at the club since 2001 and recently signed a new contract with the German double winners that runs until 2016 and therefore it would take a bid of at least £30 million to prise him away despite only playing 54 times for the club scoring 12 goals.
Linked with: Arsenal
6. Javier Pastore / Age 22 Current club: Paris St Germain
The Argentine Pastore has only been at PSG for one season so it’s unlikely that he’ll move on this summer but he certainly one to keep your eye on. An attacking midfield player who netted 13 goals in 33 games last season and creates chances for others. He is now a member of the Argentina squad and would take a large amount of money to lure him away from a club who don’t need the money.
Linked with: Manchester United, AC Milan & Chelsea
7. Douglas Costa /Age 21 Current club: Shakhtar Donetsk
One of several talented Brazilian players currently at Shakhtar, he has 3 years left on his current deal. Costa is an attacking midfield player who has an explosive turn of pace and plenty of skill. One criticism of Costa is that he doesn’t score enough goals but most of what’s good about Shakhtar’s attacking play is down to Costa and he helped his team to two league titles in the last three years. He has yet to play for the full national team but has 4 goals in 12 appearances for the under 20’s. Arsenal had a bid rejected last summer.
Linked with: Arsenal & Manchester United
8. Loic Remy /Age 25 Current club: Marseille
Remy’s career hasn’t always been straight forward, he was a product of Olympique Lyonnais youth club but when promoted to the first team he struggled to make an impact and was loaned out to Lens and then transferred to Nice before his big money move to Marseille. Remy has since made himself a regular in the French national team although injury will keep him out of the forth coming European Championships. Remy has played out wide but is now playing as a striker and has 28 goals in 60 games for Marseille.
Linked with: Tottenham, Liverpool & Arsenal
9. Yann M’Vila /Age 21 Current club: Rennes
A defensive midfield player who posses the ability to pass the ball and tackle and also reads the game well. Last season M’Vila lead Ligue 1 in passes attempted (2341) and passes completed (1989) with an 84% completion rate. He has been described as a box to box midfield player and been compared to both Patrick Vieira and Claude Makelele. Despite his position, he was only booked three times in 38 Ligue 1 games and is now a regular in the French national team.
Linked with: Arsenal Inter Milan & Paris St Germain
10. Jack Rodwell /Age 21 Current Club: Everton
Admit it, you’d forgotten about Rodwell hadn’t you? A player who burst onto the scene in the Premier League with Everton in 2008. Rodwell was captain of the England under 16 side and has moved up to the under 21’s. Rodwell can play at Centre Half but is much more productive playing in a defensive midfield role and has now played 85 times for Everton, injuries have slowed his progress but there is no doubt the Premier league big boys are still monitoring his progress. It’s also worth considering that Everton are a club with financial needs.
